The southern end of the Whitefish River Trail has evolved over time into a hub for community activities, including youth sports at Smith Fields, senior living at The Springs, and expanding residential neighborhoods like The Lakes, Montera, and Alta Vista. Additionally, health services are growing in and around Logan Health. North Valley Music School has begun construction on its new facility in the heart of this neighborhood, and The Springs has received approval for a large expansion, adding 124 independent senior living apartments. These new developments in this area of our trails network highlight the increasing need to complete a safe multi-use path from City Beach to the terminus at Riverlakes City Park. This city park is currently undeveloped but is expected to become a hub of activity for a large portion of our senior community, as well as the rest of our community.
Safe Trails Whitefish is gathering stakeholders in this area to envision what park development will best serve the local resident population and integrate seamlessly with our city path system. This park features a pond, offering the potential for a walking loop and a universally designed pier. The linear park will provide a shaded path along the river, connecting to a lane with residential loop options. STW will collaborate with partners to fund a conceptual design to present to the city, aiming to initiate the development process for this incredible health and lifestyle amenity.
